In spite of nature’s fury the day before, the µFD at Freedom Park on the 25th was a success. 30 people came by, and 7 set up stations. Ben AI6YR couldn’t find an antenna, so brought an old floor lamp from the 80s, which he and April KN6QQW made QSOs with, on 6 and 15 meters, as far away as Colorado. ARRL SB Section Manager John Kitchens NS6X was able to pow-wow with Jason Miller KM6PSZ, founder of the CSUCI ham group.
Members of CSUCI’s club, VCARC, VCARS, CVARC and LVARC were on hand…great to see everybody rubbing elbows. The weather was great (well, great compared to the record-breaking storm of the day before), with one 15 minute downpour that got us all crowded under the canopies, and even some sunshine before and after. South Mountain was visible through the clouds a few times, blanketed in snow…amazing. Photos are in the Gallery.
And everyone who set up a radio confirmed that operating portable with a little weather is just as easy as on a sunny day.
See you on the net-
